EY Skate Loft

The EY Skate Loft is a private indoor skatepark, which has been made possible by the hard work of Team EY and their supporters and is the brainchild of Everett Maclean, Team EY skateboarder and local grassroots community activist.

Everett Maclean & Nick Pierre designed the skatepark (with help from Steve Kutsopolis on the mini-ramp) and consulted with EY skaters and friends throughout the construction process. The skatepark was entirely built by Team EY and volunteers and was completed in October 2010. The EY Skate Loft is expected to open to the public in winter 2010 - a date is yet to be set.

The skatepark includes an amazing mini-ramp and a street area. The mini-ramp is 23' wide 4' high with 5’ & 6’ extentions. The street area is in an 'L' shape with a bank in one corner flowing into a hip/quaterpipe that opens up into a wide street area with a manny pad, ledges and a flat bar, ending with a wide bank with a 2 1/2' quarterpipe in the middle and wallride off to the side.

The skatepark is NOT OPEN to the public yet - Only key holders and thier guests.

All guests of key holders must pay a daily membership fee of $5 cash.

The EY Skate Loft will be offering skateboarding lessons to youth ages 6-14, and is available to host events, parties, contests and video premieres, for details contact evey@eyskate.com

6 Curity Ave, East York, ON, across from the Home Depot east of St. Clair & Oconnor.
TTC: Take the 91 or 91C Bus from Woodbine Station, get off at Curity Ave stop.
Go around to back of building to 'Door K2' - the only section of the building with a 2nd floor, look for 'EY Skate Loft' on the door.

Park Clean-up/Tricks 4 Trash 3/Painting Day!

Team EY hosts a Three-in-One!

It’s been a long cold winter and the EY Park is looking pretty shaby and worn out. So on April 19th 2009 from 10am - 2pm, Team EY will be hosting a Park Clean-up, followed by the 3rd annual Tricks 4 Trash and then we'll be Painting the park!

We will also be helping the East York Garden Club clean up the Garden as a show of good faith and to keep friendly relations with our community partners.

After we clean-up - get some free stuff! Pep will be unloading all of his unused and/or old skate stuff to you for your clean-up efforts!

Unfortunately, we were unable to get spray paint for the repainting of murals, however we have paint to prime the park and some extra paint for anyone who would like to paint something. I invite you to bring your own paint and put up pieces.

Come out and help make the park look great for all of us, cuz rippin season is here!

This video features Team EY's Nick Fulton, Sooni, Yash, Crispy and special guests Masaru, Kevlar and Yuki travelling, skateboarding, getting lost in the jungle, losing their minds on boats and climbing mountains in Japan, Taiwan & Thailand.

The Inter-Continental Premiere of the video was this past weekend, for a select few at a secret location. If you were lucky enough to be there or to get a copy of this limited edition DVD, the video was pretty epic, plus there were some bangin' slideshows on there too!

Last week TEAM EY won the City of Toronto 2007 Volunteer Group of the Year Award!
Team EY was nominated by city councillor Janet Davis and by Stan Waldow Park Recreationist Sue Francis for all their hard work developing the local skateboaring scene in East York, most importantly securing and designing the East York Skatepark. As well as, all the free events we hosted - 3 contests, 2 mural painting days, countless park clean-ups, a BBQ/fundraiser and taking leadership in developing a strong youth community at the skatepark.
The awards ceremony was held on Nov. 26th, 2008 and 10 of the 13 current Team EY members were able to attend to recieve a plaque for the team, individual certificates and volunteer years of service pins.
Not bad for doing what we love to do!

MAC Ride: Sea to Sea

Back in July, Crispy and Pep were the supply van drivers and film crew for a Canadian Sea to Sea 7,500km motorcyle charity drive for Breast Cancer.
They went from Vancouver, BC to Halifax, NS in 10 days, stopping along the way in Salmon Arm, The Fraser River, Lake Louise, Calgary, Regina, Moosemin, Winnipeg (visited Spensurp), Kenora, Thunder Bay, Lake Superior, Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto, Peterborough, Montreal, Quebec City, Grand Falls, Fredricton...among many, many others. And swam in both the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean in one trip!

Thanks to all 200+ people that attended the Sabby Memorial Fundraiser BBQ and showed love and support to the family of Sebatian "Sabby" Perez and helped raise over $1300!
The hotdogs, hamburgers and drinks were all sold out, a playlist of Sabby's favorite songs blasted the whole time, while his friends skated the East York Skatepark.
Best trick contest was good times with some heavy tricks going down, thanks to Concrete Guerilla for hooking up the prizes for the comp and donating Sabby Roll Forever t-shirts!

Evey, Yash, Tree and I are painting a mural at the EY Skatepark in memory of Sabby. It will be on the 8 set wall. Unfortunately, there has been a lot of rain and the painting keeps getting interupted. But, the mural should be complete in the next week...completion photos coming soon.

May long-weekend, 8 of us pilled into a Yukon and took a 4 day roadtrip to the Detroit and the DC Plaza, that somehow turned into a trip to Cincinnati, Cleveland and Louisvile, Kentucky too!

Will from PSC/Bunt Studios made a 20 min tour video of all the skating and antics, but it's not released yet because some of the footage is being saved for the upcoming PSC3 video.

Simon's neo-hippy-new-ager parents were nice enough to let Dan, Yash, Sooni and I stay in their bed & breakfast for free...until they realized "we could barely stand" and that we should leave. We did however make great friends with a beer named "DUDE".

We took a deep sea fishing charter and caught some salmon and crabs. Unfortunately, a seal was following our boat scaring away most of the fish. But, the ones we did catch loved DUDE too!

After trolling for salmon, we decieded to visit Pain & Wastings to do some trolling for junkies. Apparently shooting up, drug dealing and dumpster prostition are all normal things to see at 2pm on a Tuesday in broad daylight...though none of them were drinking DUDE?

The Mo.Rockin Crew in Casablanca: Nick Fulton, Amine Mouktamil, Josh Glover & Nick Pierre

The biggest mosque in Morocco is in Casablanca and can hold up to 100 000 people in it!

They have street-snail stands down by the beach in Casablanca - for those late night snail cravings that all frenchmen get...

We did an 8 hour drive south from Casablanca to Marakesh to Agadir. One lane mountain roads with overloaded trucks like this in front of you, rolled buses on the side of the road, security check points and paying off the local police are the norm.

We arrived in Agadir at 1am, we checked out all the spots we were gonna hit the next day, had trouble finding a hotel (since all the hotel workers were already asleep and didn't want to wake up to check us in) and went to the beach to see the lighted Hollywood style hill over the town "Allah, The King, The People".

Skating in Agadir was sick! All three of us put it down...Skate-business!

On our way back from Agadir we took the beach road instead of the mountain road and went along the beautiful Taghazout coastline. Once we cut inland again, we came across tree-goats! This is the only place in the world where goats climb trees...you have to see it to believe it. There was one tree that had maybe 10 goats in it! I even climbed up into the tree with them...they didn't even seem to mind.

Tom Wilk joined us for 2 nights, one of partying in the strangest club I've ever been to and another night of roaming Casablanca's old walled city "The M'Dina" - which is now Casablanca's ghetto. We roamed the streets with Ares (Amine's pitbull) and met some friends from the skatepark that sang and played classic 70's & 80's rock with new Arabic lyrics, all the while taming the local glueheads.

Amine took us to his beach houses in Bouznika. This one has a big piece of land infront, which he plans to make into a skatepark. Nick Fulton and I broke it in already.

Amine is still working hard to build a public skatepark in Casablanca, as well as his own private park at his beach house. We'll be back in Morocco for the grand openings.

1. Been back from Morocco for 2 weeks now, but I'm still hunting down all the photos...photo and story posts in the next week.

2. "The East York Skatepark: the 1st year" DVD release is still on hold. It's 100% done except for feelreelgood's videos...if I don't get them by May 1st, I'm unfortunately just gonna release the video without them.

3. "Westside-Eastside 2000" DVD is almost done...I'll post up a trailer and some info after I get those Morocco photos up.

4. "Morocco Tal Mout" (Morocco Till I Die) tour DVD? Maybe we are working on a tour video? Maybe we filmed 7 tapes of skate-buisness and tree goats? Maybe we'll be done in the near future? Maybe you will be invited to watch it?

The Return from Morocco: Part 1 - Casablaca

We all made it back safe and sound from Morocco.
Our amazing host, Amine, showed us the spots, the countryside and the people.
We did plenty of skating, a little bit of partying and a whole lot of travelling within Morocco.

While there I shot my first roll of 8mm film ever, so once that is developed I will post it up on my blog (it's only 2 mins).
We filmed 7 hours worth of DVD footage, so there will also be a full video of our travels.
We also took plenty of photos and I will be making a slideshow, but until then here are some of the highlights:

- we got caught in the snowstorm on the way to the airport and were late for our flight, but still made it on in less than 15 mins with the help of a super nice airline dude

- we skated at this temporary park a lot. Amine and his friends just straight up built it themselves and chain it up at night...DIY

- this is Amine's office...he's the president of the "Moroccan Extreme Sports Association" (it was also our chill spot and bedroom some nights)

- the beaches were beautiful, we all tried our best to surf...I also stepped on a sea urchin and it's spine went right thru my toe and out the other side

Fulton, Josh Glover, Tom "Windsor" Wilk and myself are off to Casablanca, Morocco for 10 days to rip it up in the rough and unexplored streets of Africa!

Our host will be Amine from the Mo.Rockin United Team, who is a pioneer in getting recognition and intrest in skateboarding, surfing and other sports in Morocco.
Besides working hard to popularize skateboarding in a place that has had little exposure to it, he has many projects in the works, including getting a public skatepark built in Casablanca.

Well, we are off for some good times, skating and surfing in the sun!

Back in August, Evey wanted to take us on a skatepark tour, so we got Cohen's van, some Team EY and PSC bros got up, kidnapped Will to be our film bitch. We headed out planning to skate a lot, instead we hit up Websters Waterfall, used our bodies as rafts through some rapids in in the Elora Gorge and did some cliff jumping at the Elora Quarry...good times...(well we did hit up some full pipes and Guelph University too)...oh yeah: I WANT CANDY!

Korea & Japan Adventure

I'm back from 2 weeks in Korea and Japan with my buddies from Ryerson, Dave and Matt. We traveled around a lot, ate wicked Asian food (and some wack chicken bladders), drank Biru and Soju and visited the tropical island of Jeju-Do where we got a hussler taxi man to drive us around the island for 20,000 Won a day ($20 Canadian!)
Check the video: I got to skate in the DMZ (the DeMilitarized Zone) - It's a no man's land between South and North Korea, its messed up, with land mines fields, tank traps, secret tunnels, there are no pictures allowed and crazy security everywhere, including South and North Korean troops, also some US and UN troops - but I managed to skate this one wall that was blocked from the guard tower by a tree for about 30 seconds - sketchy!
And, Dr. Fish rules, we need to get this in Canada! Nothing feels better on my old sore skateboarding feet then little Turkish fish eating the dead skin off.

East York Skatepark - Upgrade 1.5 & Painting

This past weekend was sick!
So many locals came out to clean up and paint the park...and do some concrete work!
The bad graffitti was getting bad, so I got some money from Beautiful Cities and from Home Depot and bought a bunch of paint. Lots of volunteers came out to do planed pieces and a lot of spontaneous art too.
Since I'm not much of a painter, I decieded this was a good time to do some park upgrades. So I bought some concrete, and with lots of eager helpers built a new Wallride-to-Rock-Slash, cemented in a permanent polejam and cemented in a slash-curb at the top of the steep bank.
Two 12 hour days and no complaints - Community development at it's best!

PSC, "the other" skate crew in East York, will be premiering thier 2nd full length video GET GNAR, Sept 14th at 7PM, at the Legion at Danforth Ave & Danforth Rd.
The video features full parts from the whole team, who all rip (& bunt) hard! Also, Team EY, EY Skatepark locals and Vanderhoof locals have small parts/cameos.
These guys have been working hard on this video for 2 years now. It was originally finished in Feb, but Will has been adding footage and re-editing it like crazy, it will be a whole new video since then....hopefully it will be done by Friday???

First, the slashing parking block at the top of the steep bank, now a polejam in the dirt gap.

Manitoulin Island

A few weeks ago Jessica and I went camping up at Manitoulin Island. It's beautiful up there! We had great weather and a nice relaxing time hanging out on the beach, swimming in waterfalls (and even some driving lessons for Jessica)...and we found a terrible skatepark!

All the Good Times I've been wasting while having Good Times

Over 200 people showed up to the premiere.
Before the video, a serious session over the rock-drop-gap went down, with plenty of ripping...including Hawg ripping his knee...ouch. Some little tyke kickflipped the gap, Ashton early grabed it, among other random ripping.
For the actual video there were some issues with the projector, but otherwise the video went well and the peeps enjoyed their free showing.
The after party at Wise Guys had some pukers (Buntlett) and some pass-outs (Tommer)...I enjoyed some 150 for the masses...then at the after after party the rest of the free Steam Whistle was quickly comsumed and somehow I ended up at home at 6am.

3 weeks ago was Nickey G's bachelor party weekend. We rented a cottage on a sick piece of land that used to be an old fish hatchery. We had a keg, some bros, our own private lake and grilled meat all day...oh yeah and there was a random bowl in the forest that we got loose on.

Good Times.
